Ciaran

This page is probably the most difficult to have to write. I wasn't ready for Ciaran to leave me so soon.  I have to keep leaving and coming back as I have a very difficult time putting my thoughts down without weeping on the loss of Ciaran.

My heart and soul dog, special from even before the day she arrived.  The product of and AI, C-Section single child, a one in a million child.  Ciaran had love administered right from her first breath.  Fiesty from the moment her birthing sack was open.  I can still see the wet screaming baby latching on to mother Harriet's milk while she was still out from the surgery.  Harriet was a fabulous mother who tended this special babe with love and care, we would spend evenings lounging on the couch together sharing this singleton puppy.  At three weeks of age it was easy to put a name to the pup, she was demanding, in your face and if you crossed her she would let you know.

Ciaran (pronounced Key Ran) is gaelic and means of Black Heart.  I don't think this of being bad more a wicked sense of humour.  As a singleton Ciaran was able to entertain herself, but also found it very easy to mix with the adult dogs in the house as well.  An independent spirit, I can still see her even at eight weeks coming on our daily walks but not staying with the group, always finding interesting things, using her nose and going off on her own.  Many a day she would just be a dot on the horizon running and exploring the fields.  It wasn't always easy to watch her go, but I am lucky enough to have access to a full section of land off our property, so no worries of traffic.

kiss my thistle

Ciaran was an extremely intelligent dog teaching her ring craft was a breeze, she had a natural attitiude which in time became known as the Sassenach "Kiss My Thistle".  Hence the stickers on my crates and tack box.  I don't know where to begin with Ciaran's show career, it was only a part of our lives.  Puppy in Group wins, Adult Group Wins, Specialty wins, National wins, Ciaran had them all under her belt.  Obedience was interesting, Ciaran challenged me all the way.  In the right hands Ciaran would have gained an OTCH without any effort, but I must admit I am happy with household obedience and not the most dedicated when it comes to practicing for the ring.  Consequently CD is the only title in that area, but it came with three High In Class, two at US Nationals and one at a Regional Specialty.  Ciaran took time out to have two litters for me, one from Arthur, Am.Can Ch. Sassenach National Rendezvous CD JH CGC and the second from Ch. Rokeena Swagman.  These two litters gained Ciaran her Top Producer status.  I decided to try my hand in the field with Ciaran as well.  With help from my friends Alan Ross and Jean Clark, Ciaran gained her Field Dog Junior title.
